My vape lost flavor

Imagine waking up one morning, grabbing your favorite vape and taking a big drag, only to realize that you can’t taste anything . You still get a huge cloud of vapor, but the experience is still a bit off.

What should you do?

It depends. There are a number of reasons why your vape might lose flavor temporarily. Some are due to your device, others are due to a lack of flavor. Here are a few ways to identify the problem and fix it.

6 Reasons Why You Can't Taste Food

Low battery

The first thing to check when you can't get your favorite flavor is your device's battery .

Usually if the battery is the cause, you will notice a decrease in the flavor of your e-liquid each time you discharge it. This is because when the battery is low, the effectiveness of vaporizing the PG containing the flavor in the e-liquid will be weaker. You may still be able to get smoke when you start the device, but that does not mean all the ingredients are vaporized.

Try replacing the battery with a fully charged one and see if the flavor improves.

Cartridge

If you’re using a cartridge, this might be a sign that it’s time to get a new one. Your device might produce enough vapor, but you definitely won’t be able to taste anything. If you’re feeling a little cheap and still use it, you’re likely to get a nasty dry hit.

Coil

If you haven’t changed your coils recently, it’s time to do so. As you refill your e-liquid and use it up over and over again, some of the residue will build up on your coils. This will cause them to heat up slowly and unevenly. You may still get some vapor if you continue to vape, but you won’t be able to enjoy the taste.

Customize your device

After checking for any areas that may be worn out, try adjusting the settings. Some flavors are better with RDAs , while others are better with tanks and RTAs . Adjusting the wattage higher can also help pull out the missing flavors.

This process takes some experimentation, try starting at 75W as this is the average power level that produces the best flavor. If you can't taste anything at this power level, it's time to go higher.

Essential oil incubation

Aside from the technical reasons, it is possible that your essential oil needs to age a little longer before you can use it. This is because the manufacturer immediately released the product before the ingredients were fully combined. You can age the essential oil for a few more days, or weeks, and occasionally test it out to see if the flavor improves.

Feeling bored with taste

If none of these methods work, it might be time to slow down your vaping. You may not be tasting anything simply because you can’t taste it. People who vape frequently often experience a problem called “taste fatigue.” This means that your taste buds are a little “tired” after consuming one or more strong flavors for a long time.

It's like when you go into a candle shop and after smelling a dozen different candle scents, you can't tell which one is which anymore, because we all recognize scents through our sense of smell. Taste fatigue is similar, you just take this as a sign from your body asking you to slow down, change the scent, or give yourself a break.

There are a few ways to cure this taste aversion. First, drinking enough water yourself can help refresh your taste buds. Second, try rinsing your mouth with mouthwash, chocolate gum, or vaping a flavorless e-liquid. Some suggest vaping a different e-liquid to see if that helps, although most agree that this isn’t the best cure.

Generally, the easiest way is to try taking a day or two off vaping to let your body recover. Remember, there is no surefire way to get over this flavor fatigue period, so try to be patient for a few days to let your senses recover.

These are the most common reasons why you suddenly lose the taste of your e-liquid when vaping. While testing your device is the first step to troubleshooting, remember that taste fatigue can happen to anyone, even those who have been vaping for a long time.
