Why are supercapacitors the vape battery technology of the future?

Why are supercapacitors the battery technology of the future?

dotMod has just launched the dotStick Revo, but let's not talk about the design and features of this product line. Let's pay attention to a new technology that could completely change the vape world: Supercapacitor technology.

From the moment dotStick Revo “on-air”, dotMod and the world have been praising this unprecedented step forward. Not only does it have impressive stability and strong discharge current, but it is also durable over time and has the ability to “charge in the blink of an eye”, it can be said that this new technology is completely superior to old battery lines. So what exactly is “Supercapacitor”? How superior are its features, let’s find out with TVC in this article.

I. Definition of “supercapacitor”

“Supercapacitors” are made up of many insulating layers, and rely on the mechanism of static electricity accumulation on the two surfaces of the carbon insulating layer. At first, it seems like a temporary storage method, but this mechanism is the answer to very fresh discharge current and the ability to fully recharge energy in 2 minutes: no need to go through a chemical reaction, instead, it directly stores fresh discharge current on the two surfaces of the insulating layer, and automatically releases discharge current when unbalanced.

II. Advantages and disadvantages of “supercapacitor” technology

1. Advantages

Battery life, great device life

*First of all, the way supercapacitors and other types of electrochemical batteries work is quite different:

  • In electrochemical batteries: to create an electric current, the chemicals inside must undergo a chemical reaction. Each time this happens, the temperature increases or decreases, as well as corrodes the materials, more or less reducing the battery's performance (battery failure). For this reason, Li-ion batteries are recommended to only withstand 700-1000 charge/discharge cycles throughout their life cycle.

  • In supercapacitors: they cover capacitor films with extremely high surface area, 10 -> 100 times more than normal capacitors. The static electricity is temporarily stored and separated by the insulating carbon film in the middle. Thanks to that, it has the ability to charge/discharge super fast but can still store electricity at a level comparable to normal batteries.

Because it generates almost no heat, a supercapacitor can be used millions of charge/discharge cycles without worrying about battery deterioration. Actual measurements show that after 15,000 charges, the efficiency only decreases by 3% and after 40,000 times the working efficiency only decreases by 5%. This figure for Li-ion batteries is only 300 charges.

Elevate the experience

What makes supercapacitors stand out is their lightning-fast charging capabilities. For example, with the dotStick Revo series with a 700mAh battery, you only need 5 minutes at 30W to fully charge. Forget about having to constantly recalculate the battery life to prepare for the next charge. With supercapacitor technology, the world's way of thinking about battery usage will change!

Because it only takes a few minutes to charge, vape users can now drain the battery, plug it in, watch a movie review video on Facebook, and voila, the battery is full, then unplug it to continue using. So convenient!

The next point is the discharge current is fast, strong and extremely durable. You will never encounter a case of flickering or under-discharge even after using the device for several years. With only 1 intensity control circuit, the super capacitor can maintain a stable discharge current continuously from full to empty without damaging any internal components.

2. The only weakness of supercapacitors

If it weren’t for this weakness, supercapacitor technology would have flooded all vape products. The downside is that the battery drain is significantly higher than that of electrochemical batteries. This means that the batteries of devices using supercapacitors will gradually lose power over time. With the dotStick Revo, the 700mAh battery will lose all its power after about 7-10 days even when not in use. In comparison, Li-ion batteries will take several months or even a year to drain a high-quality battery.

This greatly affects the ability to equip this technology on disposable lines. However, in the future when technology can overcome this weakness, this will certainly become a new standard and outdated electrochemical batteries will gradually sink into oblivion.

III. Experience new technology today!

There is still a long way to go before supercapacitors are widely available in pod vapes, but with the release of the dotStick Revo from the renowned dotMod, you can now experience this amazing technology firsthand.
