Thanks to smoking bans in most states, smokers have embraced taking their habit outdoors, where they can easily mingle with like-minded people. But what about e-cigarette users, who can comfortably smoke their e-cigarettes in bars? Now, their e-cigarette cartridges come with a special sensor to help them find like-minded people.
According to the New York Times, the manufacturer of the Blu e-cigarette brand has integrated social networking features into the cartridge of the cigarette, with a sensor mounted inside that will signal to the user if there is another person using an e-cigarette in the vicinity.
The new Blu boxes contain a radio device that emits and searches for signals from other packs of pills, and they vibrate and flash green when they detect a signal within 50 feet. They also vibrate if the user passes a store that sells the new boxes, the Times reported.
According to the Times, these drug packages can exchange information about users, including contact information on social networking sites.
According to the manufacturers, e-cigarettes still provide enough nicotine for users but with less toxic substances, so that users can comfortably enjoy fragrant smoke right in their home. The Blu line is a starter kit with a battery charger , 5 cartridges, each cartridge can be used for 250 puffs.
Blu isn’t the first to bring people together; devices like smartphones and laptops have had this capability for a long time, and newer devices like the Nintendo 3DS have added the ability to connect players over wifi. But cigarettes and e-cigarettes are more tangible than the game system you keep in your pocket. And even without the clouds of smoke, Blu e-cigarettes are very recognizable. Do users really need a device that tells them where to start a conversation?
