And when you do find the perfect flavor, chances are your enjoyment will be ruined if your coil burns out.
If your vape device suddenly emits a pungent, smoky smell, it may be that the cotton inside the coil has burned out. OCC is usually made from pure cotton that will absorb the e-liquid towards the heating element (coil) to vaporize. When there is not enough e-liquid for the coil to vaporize, your coil will continue to operate without e-liquid. This causes the cotton to dry out, creating a burnt taste that ruins the flavor of your e-liquid.

At first glance, a burnt coil may look different from a normal coil, or worse. However, the cotton inside shows clear signs of damage with blackened edges.
Can a burnt coil be used again?
Although a burnt coil should be replaced as soon as possible, if you can't replace it right away you can use the method below to clean the coil while waiting for a new one.
Step One: Soak the Coil
First, remove the coil from the burner, remove the burnt cotton, soak the coil in hot water to remove any dirt stuck on the coil.
Step two: Clean (optional)
If the residue doesn’t come off when you soak it, try adding a little lemon juice or vinegar to the hot water. However, soaking your coils in lemon or vinegar may affect the flavor of your e-liquid later.
Step three: Dry
Remove the coil from the bowl of water and place it on a flat surface or paper towel to dry. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can use a hair dryer (not recommended).
Step four: Prime the coil
Priming your coil is the best way to avoid dry hits. Wet the cotton with your e-liquid to avoid burning out your coil.
Step 5: Install the coil
Last but not least, insert the coil into your atomizer and use as normal.
