10 Simple Solutions to Fix a Leaking Tank

Follow these simple solutions and that pesky leaking tank problem will be a thing of the past.

There’s nothing more frustrating than having a leaking tank all day long. Most of us have had that moment where we find our favorite e-liquid leaking out of the tank, all over our device and the surrounding area. It happens to most of us, and many of us don’t know how to stop it. Here are 10 simple solutions to prevent leaking tanks.

1. Fill the tank properly

The biggest cause of tank leaks is also the easiest to avoid. Atomizers are built with a vertical air tube that runs from the body to the drip tip. This is the flue tube. Although the instruction manual for the atomizer warns against this, some vapers still accidentally let e-liquid flow into the air tube, causing a leak. Avoid the end of the air tube when adding e-liquid to the atomizer.

If you accidentally let e-liquid leak into the air tube, wipe it off with a tissue before vaping . You should also not fill the atomizer head with e-liquid, leave a small space near the top of the tank to avoid e-liquid leaking out.

2. Check the rubber gasket

Worn or damaged rubber gaskets are also one of the causes of e-liquid leakage, the most typical example is the Kangertech sub ohm tank line. Disassemble the atomizer and check the rubber gasket. If the rubber gasket is worn, damaged or missing, this means your airlock ring is damaged. Luckily, rubber gaskets are quite cheap and easy to buy, you just need to find the one that fits your atomizer.

3. Check the threads

If the burner is not locked tightly, due to slipping or not being tightened properly, it will also cause the essential oil to leak. Check that the threads are properly tightened and then tighten the thread. If the burner is slipping, remove it and reinstall it properly.

If the threads are worn out from prolonged use, you will probably need to buy a new burner. Fortunately, most burners today are made from durable materials and often use a top fill mechanism to reduce stress on the threads.

4. Keep the tank upright

Many burners are not designed to be left lying flat for long periods of time, and you may find that your essential oil leaks from the airflow holes if you accidentally leave your burner lying flat overnight. Try to keep your device upright if you are not using it for a long period of time. If you are charging your device overnight, remove the burner from the device and place it upright (you can place it on its own stand).

5. Open the air vent wider

If the air hole is too small, it will reduce the amount of air going into the burner, you will have to puff harder. If you do it often, it will cause the essential oil to be sucked into the coil, causing the cotton to not absorb the essential oil in time and cause leakage. Open the air hole to let more air into the burner, which can also prevent the burner from leaking.

6. Problems with coil

With most mass produced products, there are naturally some that are defective. The same goes for coils, some coils have manufacturing defects that cause them to not hold the e-liquid, resulting in a leak in the atomizer. First, make sure the coil is securely attached to the atomizer, if the tank still leaks, try replacing the coil with another one from the coil pack.

7. Clean the burner

If you don’t clean your burner for a long time, residue from old essential oils will build up on some parts, causing new essential oils to leak out. The simplest solution is to disassemble the burner, wash it with cold water, and let it dry before reassembling. For a more thorough cleaning, disassemble the burner piece by piece and wash everything with soap and hot water. You will need to clean the burner more often if you frequently change the essential oils used with the burner.

8. Check for cracks

Check your atomizer for cracks or damage. A small crack in the glass or a bent metal part will cause the atomizer to no longer seal properly, allowing the essential oil to leak through the air holes. If only the tank glass is broken, you will only need to replace that part.

9. Use essential oils with the right consistency

With high wattage coils (like the SMOK TF series), e-liquids under 70% VG are more prone to leaking because of the wide juice slots in these tanks. The viscosity of the e-liquid used in the tank is usually noted in the user manual.

10. Close the lid carefully.

If you leave a tank filled with essential oils without the top cap tightly closed, the essential oils will leak out of the air vents. You may be busy and forget. No matter the reason, make sure the burner is empty when you leave the tank top cap off for a long time. Closing the air vents is also a solution, but it is not as effective as leaving the burner empty with the top cap off.
